LAHORE Punjab police, instead of improving the security of the masses, have focused all its attention on the protection of the police high ups, as security arrangements for IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar are equal to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Billions of rupees are being withdrawn from the funds of low-scale policemen namely Police Welfare Fund and is being spent on the security of IGP House. Sources said at least one thousands police officials are deputed for the security of CM Shahbaz and all other relevant departments. And roads leading to CMs House have not been either closed with barricade nor the movement of the people has been restricted there. On the other hand, police force have not only constructed concrete walls around their official residences and offices but they have also closed or restricted public movement on roads along their offices and officials residents. At least 70 million rupees have been spent on the construction of concrete walls around the offices of IG Punjab, CCPO, DIG Investigation, and DIG Operations. As a security wall was erected outside IGP Office at a cost of 300 million. Moreover, IG Punjab has directed to built concrete wall around his official residence which would cost of Rs10.5 million. A special meeting was held under the aegis of IG Punjab, which discussed the implementation of this plans. During this meeting police officials pointed out shortage of funds but IG Punjab directed that this Rs10.5 million amount should be withdrawn from Police Welfare Fund for the construction of concrete wall around his residence. And this amount should be given back to the welfare fund in next budget. It is pertinent to mention that this police welfare fund is allocated for welfare of low-scale policemen. However former CCPO Pervaiz Rathore and SSP Admin Arslan had withdrawn Rs40 million from Police welfare fund and constructed three officials residences. Now Punjab Police is repeating the same story. At least 800 policemen and 10 vehicles are allocated for the security of the IG Punjab. 4 Elite force vehicles are included in the IG Punjab security convoy. However senior police officials have expressed concerns over the foolproof security arrangement of the IGP. It is worth mentioning that FC Commandant in Peshawar Safwat Ghayur had equal rank of the IGP but he preferred public security over his personal safety. Though he was martyred by the terrorists but his name will be written in golden words and no one will point finger at him that late Safwat used national resources for his personal security and gains.
