KARACHI Five people were killed and eight others wounded as violence flared up in various parts of Karachi on Monday. Two MQM workers were killed in a drive-by shooting at Abul Hassan Isphani Road within the jurisdiction of Mobina Town Police. A bystander was killed while nearly half dozen others were wounded in Gulistan-e-Jauhar in crossfire between two political groups. In the first incident, two armed men riding a motorcycle shot and killed two young men affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). The victims were identified as Zain Ali, 25 and Mansoor, 26. SHO Yaqoob Samoo said that Zain ran an air-conditioners and refrigerators repair shop and was sitting with a friend at his shop when they were attacked. Zain lived in Scout Colony while Mansoor was a resident of Ayesha Manzil. Tension griped the area and commercial activities were suspended after the incident and a heavy contingent of law enforcers was called to maintain the law and order situation. Shortly after this incident, an 18-year-old passerby identified as Salman, son of Javed, was killed while nearly half a dozen persons, including Ajmal, Akram, Anis, Iqbal and Shoaib, were wounded during clash between two groups at Rabia City Apartments in Gulistan-e-Johar in remits of Sharah-e-Faisal Police. SHO Nadir Khan said that clash erupted between the activists of MQM and Awami National Party. Pehalwan Goth, Safora Chowrangi and other areas of Gulistan-e-Johar remained tense where aerial firing was continuing despite the deployment of heavy contingents. Separately, body of a young man was found from Lyari riverbed in the jurisdiction of Sher Shah Police. The victim was yet to be identified. Police said there were several marks of torture on the body of the deceased. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification. No case was registered till filing this report.
