LAHORE At least four people including two teenage sisters and another two minor brothers were buried alive while 14 others wounded seriously in various roof collapse incidents here in different parts of the City during heavy downpour on Monday, police and rescue workers said. Two teenage sisters were killed while five other members of the same family wounded seriously when the roof of a double-storey dilapidated house caved in with a bang in Shalimar area on early Monday. Local residents said that all the family members were asleep in their house situated near Crown Marriage Hall at GT Road in Shalimar area when suddenly the roof of the building collapsed on them during heavy downpour. Dozens of locals came out of their residences soon after the roof collapsed as the victims made hue and cry and started calling for help. In the meantime, the local residents contacted the Rescue-1122 officials and disclosed the happening to the emergency service. The rescue workers and Edhi ambulances raced towards the spot and launched the operation to pull out the victims. Two sisters later identified as Bakhtawar Bibi, 17, and Iram Bibi, 16, were pulled out dead from the debris. However, Ghulam Shabbir, his wife Shahnaz Bibi, sons namely Shahbaz and Riaz, and another daughter Natasha sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to a local hospital, where the condition of two of the injured was reported to be critical. According to the police, Ghulam Shabbir was residing at 2nd floor of the building along with his family. Rescue workers said that the dilapidated building collapsed during heavy rains on early Monday. The rescue workers managed to pull out the dead and the injured from the debris after hours-long hectic operation. Further investigations were underway. A good number of local residents also joined the operation to pull out the victims from the debris. Many emotional scenes were witnesses at the site of tragedy as the rescue workers were pulling out the victims from the debris. In another incident, two minor brothers Hassan, 7, and Asad, 3, were killed while their mother wounded seriously when the roof of their house collapsed in Nishtar Colony Area. Police said that the woman identified as Sumera Bibi was sleeping inside her single-storey house situated at Kumahan Road in Nishtar Colony area when its roof caved in with a bang during heavy rain. Rescue workers rushed to the spot and pulled out the injured and the dead from the debris. The ill-fated mother was shifted to a, local hospital in critical condition. In another similar incident, a couple was asleep inside their house situated in Youhanabad area when its roof collapsed on them. Babar and his wife Mumtaz Bibi sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a local hospital. Meanwhile, rescue workers said that six other people wounded seriously in another two roof collapse incidents in City Raiwind and Barki areas. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals in serious condition.
