islamabad - A joint investigation team comprising SP Industrial Area, SHO Sabzi Mandi and representatives of intelligence agencies will probe the matter regarding resistance, violence and attack on police during Islamabad slum demolition drive.

The JIT will interrogate suspects and look into different aspects regarding possibly sheltering terrorists in the illegal settlement in I-11 sector.

The probe team will finalise its report within two weeks and submit it to the anti-terrorism court.

Last week, a clash broke out in Islamabad’s Sector I-11 when Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials along with a large number of police personnel launched an operation against illegal settlements in the area.

The katchi abadi (slum) was completely demolished during the action.

Meanwhile, Rescue 15 of Islamabad police received 89,387 phone calls during the last month and provided immediate assistance on various help seeking calls, keeping in view the image of friendly policing.

SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiyani has said that quick response unit has been constituted at Rescue 15 with the sole purpose to provide immediate help to citizens in case of emergency and to handle issues like scuffles or domestic disputes till arrival of police staff.

In the performance report, the SSP was told that fifteen vehicles of Rescue 15 provided assistance to people in their 1,514 social affairs while forensic science laboratory collected evidences from 87 crime scenes. A total of 30,954 callers were provided general information. The ambulance service of Rescue 15 shifted 153 patients to various hospitals while its staff at PIMS and Polyclinic assisted 832 people at their respective desks.

The bomb disposal squad conducted special checking at 96 important points of the city while 1,660 vehicles were checked at various locations. The vehicle verification staff of Rescue 15 checked 494 vehicles as well as motorbikes while Sui gas, WAPDA and fire brigade staff were intimated at 57 occasions for immediate assistance in various areas.

The special squad constituted to curb begging activities shifted 419 professional alms-seekers in police stations while 32 children were shifted to child protection centres and 814 handicapped persons were shifted at Edhi home.

Meanwhile, the SSP Sajid Kiani directed Rescue 15 staff to ensure friendly police ecology through their spirit to serve people. He also directed them to give importance to each call and also appealed the citizens to avoid making unnecessary calls as these only waste the time of police and deprive the deserving people from immediate help in the difficult time.
