Aafia Siddiqui term ‘political sentence’

LAHORE - American human rights activist and six-time elected Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney dubbed the Aafia Siddiqui 86-year term as a political sentence
She said this while addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Saturday. Dr Fauzia Siddiqui was also present on the occasion. Cynthia said, “I am here for Siddiqui. I decided to stand by her when i heard of her.” “Anything is possible in politics. The Pakistan leadership has to take up the issue. How can they face their voters?”. Her return is the will of people. People power can become very rebellious when it comes to dignity and honour of daughters. I sensed the public emotion,” she maintained. Sara Flounders, an American political writer, told the media she attended the trial and sentencing. “Aafia was tortured, the 86-year jail was shameful and we realise it as a political sentence. The solution is political and diplomatic.”

Dr Siddiqui also talked of government’s failure in taking up the issue with the US.
