Lahore – Government should make National and Provincial Commissions on boned labour in the Country and temporary shelter should be provided to the released bonded labourers. It was demanded by the speakers at the policy seminar on law reforms on bonded labour held at a local Hotel organized by SPARC. SPARC Manager Kashif Bajeer said that the concerned departments are not taking their interest to implement the Bonded Labour Abolition System Amended Act 2012. The District Vigilance Committees have been established in some of the districts in Punjab but these committees are inactive and are not aware about their roles and responsibilities.
Ms. Sajida Mir MPA (PPP) committed that she will move a bill of motion on Bonded Laborer regarding their issues.
Country Director of ILO Binyameen appreciated the Punjab government for establishing literacy centers at the brick kilns for the welfare of brick kiln workers.
