Schoolgirls suffer corporal punishment in Khyber



KHYBER AGENCY – A teacher of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Landi Kotal, beat girl students for allegedly stealing bulbs from classroom, the beaten girls said the other day.
Sonali, the female student of 8th class in the school told media persons that last day their teacher Miss Salma awarded them corporal punishment and thrashed all the students of the class with stick for allegedly stealing bulbs from the classroom. She said they were inculpable, adding that the beating by their teacher caused mental agony to them.
When Miss Salma was contacted on the issue, she was on the view that she on the information received from the school watchman punished the students. The parents of the students regretted that instead of inquiring the matter, she simply trusted on the version of the guard, made it legal plea and subdued the students to rough treatment, which is injustice to them. The principal should first investigated and then awarded punishment to the responsible ones, they lamented. The school has already in dilapidated condition as the numbers of enrolled students reduced to half and out of 24 staff members 5-7 are present and the rest have been absent since long. With repeated complaints the education have turned blind eyes towards it, the parents further added. They demanded departmental action against the miss, who beside ban on physical penalty on students perpetrated the crime.
