LAHORE – Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, while taking strict notice of the ‘encounter’, has directed the IGP to investigate the incident and submit report within 24 hours.

City police shot dead a youth in a shootout staged in Ghalib market police precincts late on Friday, a local news channel claimed.

The CCTV footage of the fake shootout showed the policemen pumping bullets into the body of an unarmed man near Hussain Chowk. Later, the cops placed a pistol near to the body, identified as Mohsin from Chakwal.

Police also claimed that the deceased was a gangster and had criminal record.

Taking notice, the CM said that the Punjab government is making request to the sessions judge for holding an inquiry into the gunplay.

He also directed the IGP to register a case against the officials involved in this incident besides arresting them.

According to officials, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Habibur-Rehman constituted a committee, comprising senior officers to investigate the happeing. The committee has been ordered to submit its report at the earliest. The IGP also warned that guilty would be taken to task.
