LAHORE  - Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has asked the government to form an elders’ council comprising senior ulema from various sects to create sectarian harmony.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, SIC Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza said elimination of sectarianism was vital for survival of the country. He asserted the nation was looking towards the army for eradication of terrorism. He termed absence of the PM from the Parliament undemocratic attitude. He warned if extremism was not stopped, the country could face a civil war. He urged the state institutions to play their role in controlling the bloodshed.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza called killing of Maulana Shamsur Rehman failure of the government, demanding safety of religious leaders.
