LAHORE - The CIA police yesterday smashed a gang of kidnappers by arresting five gangsters involved in children’s abduction for ransom. The police successfully rescued two kids during the operation.

Addressing a news conference, SSP (Investigations) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said that the criminals had a violent history. Sukhera said the gangsters were actively operating in the provincial metropolis.

The five criminals had kidnapped two children for ransom from Nishtar Colony police precincts a couple of months ago. The abductors released four-year-old Moeez after receiving Rs3,50,000. The police interviewed the victim and later arrested the criminals during a successful operation.

The same gangsters had kidnapped a five-year-old boy, Hussnain, from Nishtar Colony police limits on November 25. “During initial interrogation, the culprits confessed to police investigators their involvement in as many as 70 cases of street crimes,” said SSP Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera.

Cash, motorcycles, and mobile phones were also recovered from their possession, the SSP added.

The officer identified the suspects as Shahzaib alias Bholu, Ashfaq, Naveed Boota, Sarmad Javed, and Samiullah. Further investigations were underway.
