Muzammul upsets Usman in tennis event

ISLAMABAD - M Muzammil made a huge upset in the National Ranking Tennis Championship 2015, as he carved out sensational three-set victory against 6th seed Usman Rafiq in the pre-quarterfinals played here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Tuesday. As many as 24 matches were decided on the third day of the event. In the men’s singles, Muzammil of Jehanian made a major upset as he eliminated sixth seed Usman Rafiq 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Muzamil won the first set by breaking fourth game of Usman and eventually took the first set 6-3. In the second set, the score went up to 5-5, however, Usman managed to break the 11th game of Muzammil to level the score at one-set all. In the final set, Muzammil completely outplayed his opponent and took it 6-2. Former Davis Cupper Hameed-ul-Haq was humiliated by Ahmed Chaudhry in straight sets. It was time and again mentioned these past greats should concentrate only on playing senior matches to avoid embarrassment, but reasons best known to them, they still wanted to play the main round matches and get eliminated at first or second hurdle suffering heavy defeats. All the other seeded players i.e. Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan, Heera Ashiq, M Muddassar and Shahzad Khan sailed through to the quarterfinals by beating their respective opponents in straight sets. In the boys’ 18 & under, Hamza Bin Rehan stunned eighth seed Huzaifa Abdul Rehman 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 while Muzammil, Aman Attique, Barkat Ullah, Talha Bin Asif, Asadullah, Hamza Bin Asif, Haris Irfanul Haq and Abdal Haider moved into the quarterfinals.
