LAHORE - The All-Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Amateur Golf Championship will get underway today (Friday) here at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course.

Najam Hafeez of CNS Engineering and Schnider Electric confirmed that the first tee off would take place at 10am and the pairings for the first flight would be Col Asif Mehdi, Tariq Mehmood and Dr Tariq Malik.

Najam Hafeez said: “This championship carries the name of the Quaid and hence all efforts have been made to give it a touch of glory and prestige and hoped that the champions will serve the memory of the father of the nation by excelling on the golf course.”

“Many big names have been featuring in the event which include Col Asif Mehdi, Imran Ahmed, Javed A Khan, Tariq Mehmood, Fakhar Imam, Wazir Ali, Ahmed Baig, M Rehman, M Saqib, Nadeem Aslam and Mohsen Zafar. From youngsters, Ahmed Baig, M Saqib, Nadeem Aslam and Zunair Aleem will vie for top honours,” he added.

On the first day, a total of 52 seniors will compete for honors and will contest for success over 18 holes. In the ladies segment, a total of 18 ladies are striving for top positions. Ghazala Yasmin is to make her presence felt with classy hitting and good and controlled putting on the greens. Her challengers are Tehmina Ahmed, Ana James Gill, Sameea Javed Ali and DSP Shahzadi Gulfam.
