RAWALPINDI: Speakers at a seminar to mark the International Day of Anti-corruption stressed the need to eliminate all financial, as well as political and democratic corruption to put sustainable development on its way.

“Corruption is a serious crime that undermined our political, social and economic development and badly affected our education, health, justice, democracy, prosperity and development in other sectors,” they added.

The seminar on “United Against Corruption for Development, Peace and Security” was arranged by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Southern Punjab Regional body here in its public secretariat and chaired by regional president Aamer Mehmood Kiani and regional Information Secretary Sajid Ali Qureshi jointly. MPA Ejaz Khan Jazi, Ch. Asghar, Abdul Hameed Pothi, Ch. Azeem, Ambreen Turk, Qaiser Kiani and other office bearers and representatives from civil society were also present on the occasion.

Aamer Mehmood Kiani said the nature had gifted Pakistan with immense talent and natural resources that could make our country prosper, but financial and democratic electoral corruption pushed the country back. He said our education, health, justice and other sectors were declining day by day owing to corruption and no check on it. “The menace of corruption is solely responsible of growing poverty in our dear homeland,” he said that the whole nation should come forward to safeguard the natural resources from looting by those in power by corrupting the mandate of the nation and did what which should not done.

Sajid Ali Qureshi said besides financial, democratic electoral corruption stole the real mandate of the nation and those who came into power by this mean, minted money by looting national exchequer instead of putting the country on the path of development. He said corruption is the biggest impediment to achieve the development goals and whole nation should shoulder its responsibilities to shun the door of this menace. “In our present political system, there is no way to block the corruption done by political masters and they manage to escape,” he observed. He further mentioned that government promotes its own vested interests and its members served their own financial greeds instead of promoting and thinking about the collectives interests of the citizens which is the root cause of poverty and deprivation of people.

Other speakers also spoke on the occasion and emphasized the need of carrying out collective efforts against corruption. They said without eliminating political corruption, we cannot remove other corruption from our country.
