PESHAWAR-The most-awaited 3rd addition of the National Youth Carnival Mega Challenge-2017 will start today (Saturday) in the provincial capital.
About 2,000 female and male from across the country would participate in the festival being held at 30 beautifully-decorated venues inside Peshawar Sports Complex.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Minister Mehmood Khan revealed the arrangement of the festival during a press conference here Lala Rafique Sports Arena on Friday soon after inspecting all the venues. Secretary Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Tariq Khan, Director General Sports, Director Youth, were also present. “We are eagerly waiting to say warm welcome to the youth coming to Peshawar, a 2500 years old historical living city from various educational institutions including Madaras from across Pakistan for this mega youth event,” Mehmood Khan said.
The event would certainly portray a message of peace to the rest of the world, he added. He said the aim and objective of the event is to show unity and coherence as cultural touches of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, FATA and KP have been given to the venues so that to give a pleasant atmosphere and due hospitality to the visiting competitors.
The NYC Mega Challenge-2017 is the baggiest event of the youth of Pakistan which also carrying a prize money of Rs5 million. Mehmood Khan said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for the first time in the history announced policy, development and activities for youth and a grant of Rs1 billion has been allocated.
Only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA around 13000 students went through trials and selection process, he disclosed.
Such process of selection in order to involve maximum number of youth through open trials and due selection have also adopted in other part of the country and among them 1200 final short-listed and position holders of various categories are coming to Peshawar, he said. He disclosed that only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA they have involved 121 public and private sector universities, post graduate colleges and Madras and out of 13000 competitors final 600 position holders would compete, side-by-side with students coming from other provinces.
