MULTAN-Thousands of protesters took to the roads and streets in South Punjab on Friday to condemn US President's decision to shift American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The protests took place after Jumma (Friday) prayers as people in Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Vehari, Layyah, Rajanpur, Mailsi and other cities of South Punjab gathered outside mosques or on adjacent roads and staged demonstrations.
The protesters burnt American flags and effigies of US President Trump during the protests. They also carried out non-stop sloganeering against the US.
In Multan, activists of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged a protest at Kalma Chowk, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) in front of Madarsah Qasimul Aloom while Majlis Wahdat-Al-Muslimeen, Imamia Students Organisation (ISO), Shia Ulema Council, and Anjuman Nida-e-Hussaini jointly organised a big rally. The rally commenced from New Multan and terminated at Chowk Nawan Shehr after completing the six-kilometre distance. They burnt the National flags of United States and Israel. The rally was led by Allama Iqtidar Hussain Naqvi, Salim Abbas Siddiqui, Allama Qazi Nadir Hussain Alvi, Maulana Hadi Hussain Hadi, Syed Musa Kazim, Maulana Imran Zafar and others.
Addressing the protesters, the speakers at all demonstrations strongly condemned Trump's decision regarding recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. They warned that this ill-advised decision would push the world into an unending war. They also warned of dangerous instability in the wake of the announcement, which overtly sides Washington with Israel at a time when the US had been attempting to table a new peace initiative between Jerusalem and Ramallah. They said that nefarious designs of United States have been exposed and now Arab world should re-design their diplomatic policies.
They demanded the Muslims across the world to exhibit unity and boycott American products. They also asked Pakistan government to cut diplomatic ties with the USA and expel their envoy from Islamabad. "A mad man is leading world's largest nuclear power. If he continues to lead USA, he'll end up destroying the globe," they warned.
