DC urges health dept to successfully implement anti-polio drive

Bahawalpur - Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia has said that officers and staff of health department and other concerned departments should play their key role in successfully implementing the five-day anti-polio campaign starting from December 13.  He said that children up to the age of five years should be vaccinated against polio during the anti-polio campaign.

Not a single child was deprived of the polio dose during this period, he said. He was reviewing anti-polio campaign arrangements in the committee room of his office.  Representatives of DHOs, District Coordinators, WHOs and officers of relevant departments were present on the occasion. The Deputy Commissioner said that regular training of polio team members should be done and members of polio teams should perform their duties with patriotism. District Coordinator Dr. Khalid Chandar said in the briefing that polio teams would go door to door from September 13 to 15 to vaccinate children up to five years of age.   The remaining children will be vaccinated on December 16 and 17 under the catch-up activity to protect them from polio. He said that more than 760,000 children up to the age of five years would be vaccinated against polio in the district during the anti-polio campaign.  To make this campaign a success, 2343 mobile teams, 173 fixed teams and 133 transit teams will be mobilized in the field and 477 supervisors will serve.   Later, a meeting of the District Emergency Response Committee was held in the committee room of the office under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia. The Deputy Commissioner said that all measures should be taken to be safe from dengue.

He said that 100pc coverage of hotspots should be ensured and Android user activities should be further enhanced. He said that water should not be allowed to stay in one place.  In addition, the home, offices and surroundings should be kept clean. The meeting was informed that from Jan 1 to Dec 7, 2021, 1441 suspected cases of dengue were reported out of which 107 cases are confirmed. Dr Khalid Chandar said that vector surveillance was being carried out in the district. There are 412 indoor and 108 outdoor surveillance teams active in the district.  He further said that there are 1694 hotspots in the district which have been 100pc covered between Nov 29 to Dec 5, 2021.
