ISLAMABAD At a time when the kidnapping saga is rapidly gripping the entire province of Punjab, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Monday directed the PPO Punjab to take strict action against the abductors, who are involved in such social evils. The Chief Justice issued these directives on various complaints about violations of human rights. The complainants also accused the police of backing the culprits and turning down their requests for justice without any solid reason. The complainants regularly visited police stations for registering FIRs of their kith and kin but they (complainants) returned to their homes hopelessly. Police is in a dormant state and has not been able to recover their abducted family members, they explained. Firstly, complainant Muhammad Ashraf, through an application, informed the court that two ladies abducted his child along with precious article from the house. An FIR was lodged but local police was in dormant state and has not been able to recover his abducted child yet, he said. Paran Bibi of Kasur district, another complainant, said that her husband was abducted several months back but still she knows nothing about his whereabouts. Taking notice of the complaint, the Chief Justice ordered the PPO Punjab to obtain instructions from the authorities concerned and submit a report. The Chief Justice also directed the PPO Punjab to recover the abductees and produce them before the District and Sessions Judge, Toba Tek Singh, for recording of their statements. The Chief Justice also took notice on a complaint about illegal occupation land and abduction. The complainant, Mirza Shabeer Hussain Bakkur, said that some persons with the help of police officials have illegally occupied his house and abducted his wife along with his two minor daughters. An FIR was also registered on the order of Lahore High Court but police neither arrested the accused nor recovered the abductees, he explained. The above-mentioned complainants prayed for the arrest of THE accused persons and early recovery of abductees. Taking notice of all these complaints, the Chief Justice called a report from the PPO Punjab within a fortnight period.
