'N' behind attack on me: Rashid

RAWALPINDI Awami Muslim League (AML) President, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, who narrowly escaped a deadly attack on Monday, alleged that PML-N had planned to kill him after foreseeing clear defeat in NA-55s by-polls. He believed that PML-N would have to face a defeat like of NA-21, the Mansehras constituency in which it had to face shameful failure. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani and Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif have telephoned me and assured me of their support regarding arrest of the culprits. But I want to tell them it will be an attack on the democracy if the criminals are not arrested. He was talking to media men on Monday late night outside District Headquarter Hospital after he was discharged by the hospital administration. On the occasion, Nazim Rawal Town Sheikh Rashid Shafique, former MPA Raja Rashid Hafeez and scores of other AML workers were also present. Sheikh Rashid said he is thankful to Allah Almighty who had saved his life in such terrible attack. He said that his high graph in NA-55 flabbergasted the PML-N and made to think it of its candidates defeat. To avoid this disgraceful defeat, PML-N top guns planned to kill me to clean its way in NA-55. But I am telling them that this time, we will not let the voice of people of Rawalpindi be pressed. We will not let anybody to make it as an orphan city. Victory will be the fate of Pen-Inkpot (Sheikhs election symbol). he added. While flaying the city police, the AML President said that the dead bodies of his three friends remained there in the middle of the road for 30 minutes, as they did not bother to reach at spot. They were not my body guards but friends of mine since childhood Sheikh Rashid mentioned. He also alleged that the plan to launch a brazen attack on him and his workers was sketched in jurisdiction of the Pirwadhai Police Station. The enemies of democracy played havoc in Khayaban but I make clear to them that they will be overthrown in the by-polls as he would surely win, he said. Meanwhile, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed submitted an application with Pirwadhai Police Station stating that four men came at his office where he was about to address a public gathering and two of them started indiscriminate firing with lethal weapons, killing three of his friends while injuring him and two other workers. He also recorded his statement before police officials.
