Court issues Moonis warrants

LAHORE - A civil court judge has issued on Tuesday non-bailable warrants for Chaudhry Moonis Elahi in NICL scam case while the top leadership of PML-Q has decided to expand its legal team to rescue Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahis son. It has also stepped up efforts to create a middle way with the help of people in power for averting Moonis arrest in the said case. Irfan Basra, judge of civil court, issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Moonis Elahi, who according to the statement of accused Habibullah Warraich, former federal defence minister, has played a major role in the National Insurance Company Ltd (NICL) Rs 2.75 billion scam. The FIA on Tuesday informed the court that during investigation Warriaich revealed Moonis Elahi had played an important and major role in the scam. The agency further informed it had called and demanded Moonis to appear before the FIA for investigation but he still did not appear. The FIA prayed the court to issue non-bailable arrest warrants for Moonis Elahi as he was intentionally avoiding his appearance so far, on which the court issued his arrest warrants. When contacted, Senator Kamil Ali Agha told TheNation: The PML-Q will soon expand the legal team to fight legal battle for Moonis Elahi, as all actions have been taken without giving him an opportunity of hearing by the FIA. While commenting over his partys relations with the PPP, he said: It is astonishing that why an agency working under the control of federal government is taking hasty steps against Moonis. However, the PML-Q and the PPP enjoy good relations being major political parties of the country. When asked about the Moonis return from abroad, he said: In the present circumstances it will not be wise to call him back, and he will stay away for indefinite period untill the party makes satisfactory arrangements to save him from one-sided investigation. He said: The FIAs action against Moonis is direct violation of the Pakistan Penal Code. The agency is also taking biased actions to appease some unknown forces. Meanwhile, sources in the PML-Q claimed the partys high command would continue its effort to get support of some people in power at the federal capital to save the skin of Moonis Elahi.
