BAHAWALPUR - Artistes are facing starvation as the annual budget of Radio Pakistan's Bahawalpur office has been decreased from Rs30 million to Rs7 million and recording of programmes like documentaries, dramas, song and features has been stopped.

The players of drum, flute, Sarangi and other musical instruments are forced to live below the poverty line. Radio Pakistan's Bahawalpur office produced melodious singers who are popular at the regional, provincial and national level but are facing financial problems. The regional Radio Station failed to disburse salaries for months as its budget has reduced during the last couple of years.

However, the contracts have been awarded to politically blue-eyed persons and they are being paid from the artistes' salaries.  The artistes and the local people have demanded that the Federal Minister of Information Qamar Zaman Kaira should increase the budget of Bahawalpur Radio Station immediately.
