LONDON – Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will be in United Kingdom from Feb 9-13 on an unofficial visit.

He will address a gathering in Bradford for which prominent personalities of Pakistani community living in Britain and workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have been issued invitations to attend the ceremony.

The prime minister will also pay a brief courtesy call on British Prime Minister David Cameron during this visit. He will also meet business community apart from delegations of PPP workers.

Invitations to attend PM Raja’s address have been issued by the Pakistani High Commission in England. PM Raja may also meet MQM chief Altaf Hussain during his visit. However, according to MQM’s Central Secretariat, Altaf is ill and avoiding meetings.

On the other hand, British legal and constitutional experts and diplomatic circles are raising questions on Pakistani prime minister’s UK visit as Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is one of accused in Rental Power Plants (RPPs) case and investigations are still under way.

A NAB officer investigating the case also allegedly committed suicide in this regard and that case is also being probed into. Raja, as federal minister for water and power, was found involved in corruption in RPPs case and the apex court of the country had put his name on the ECL and most recently the Supreme Court had ordered his arrest as well.

In the prevailing scenario, the legal and constitutional experts are in a fix about the status of Raja’s official and unofficial visits to Great Britain.
