ISLAMABAD - Appointment and constitutional status of 3 members of the government’s negotiating team has been challenged in Islamabad High Court.

The petitioner Shahid Orakzai has taken the plea in his constitutional petition filed in IHC that no one among three members of government negotiations team including Rustam Shah, Maj (Retd) Muhammad Aamir and Rahim Ullah Yusufzai is member of the National Assembly and, as per assembly rules and procedure, no non-elected person can become member of any committee of the NA.

Irfan Siddiqui, advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on national security has not been made respondent in the petition as he is entitled to take part in the NA proceedings as per the constitution. However he is not authorised to cast vote.

Shahid Orakzai said that the PM has entrusted a vital matter of national security to the non-elected persons who have not been appointed under any federal law.

It has been further said that 3 members of this committee be forthwith restrained from performing any function and court should maintain that no one can become member of any committee of the NA without taking oath of his membership in the assembly.
