More than 1 million people of Tehsil Kot Chutta are deprived of healthcare while the new building of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) has not yet been made functional despite its completion.

The building is not functional amidst the tall claims of local lawmakers and the health administration.

The up-gradation of old Rural Health Centre (RHC) Kot Chutta has become a dream for the local residents of important towns of Tehsil Kot Chutta like Mana Ahmdani, Notak, Sakhi Sarwar, Sheroo, Mahtum and Jhoke Utra.

Talking to The Nation, local residents Shahid, Asif, Kashif and many others showed dismay over the delay in finalisation of the project with posting of specialists doctors to meet medical and surgical emergencies facilities as old RHC Kot Chutta lacks even basic facilities.

The Nation has got a copy of inspection report of Syed Nadir Hussain Shah, Tehsil Advisor Kot Chutta for Punjab Ombudsman. According to the report; Nadir has reported to Punjab Ombudsman that Kot Chutta hospital lacks facilities of ICU, specialist doctors, anaesthesia machine, funds, defibrillators and burn unit. There is no security arrangement. Similarly, no private rooms for patients have been provided. Surgeries are not carried out in the hospital.

Kot Chutta city and its old hospital (RHC) are situated at main inter-provincial (Sindh-Punjab) Indus Highway road. Kot Chutta Town is hub of many populous towns of district DG Khan and Rajanpur, lacks the medical facilities thereby increasing the problems of millions of people. Rate of road accidents on Indus Highway whereupon the LHC is situated is quite high and victims forcibly have to travel Trauma Centre, Teaching Hospital Dera Ghazi Khan or Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

When contacted, RHC Kot Chutta Medical Officer Ghulam Mustafa said that new building of THQ Hospital has been constructed but due to non installation of electricity transformer, it was under the charge of Building Department and has not been handed over to the Health Department yet.

Dr Mustafa said that all the basic medical facilities including medicines are available at hospital. However, he confirmed the lack of medical staff as the posts of computer operator, homeopathic doctor, Hakim, dental technician, rural health inspectors, operation theatre assistant, anaesthesia assistant, laboratory assistant, junior clerk, three sanitary patrol are vacant.

Deputy District Health Officer Ather Sikhani admitted that THQ Hospital is very important for the millions people of Tehsil Kot Chutta. He also admitted that only building of THQ Hospital has been completed while its notification of functioning, funds and sanctioning of posts are yet to take place.

Local residents expressed that lack of medical facilities at RHC Kot Chutta had now become unbearable for the public as it was not able to meet growing needs. They appealed for early functioning of THQ Hospital.
