ISLAMABAD : A delegation of European Union Electoral Mission headed by Mr. Michael Gahler, called on Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Justice (retired) Sardar Muhammad Raza and Secretary ECP yesterday.

The meeting was attended by the EU Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms. Lora Borissova, Mr. Apostolos Aravanis, Ms. Hannah Roberts and senior officers of the ECP. The Secretary briefed the participants on the overall activities and preparations of the Election Commission of Pakistan.   Welcoming the delegation, the CEC expressed his pleasure over the meeting while exchanging views on various electoral matters. He appreciated the continued support and cooperation of the international community towards trengthening the capacity and capabilities of the ECP to hold credible elections in the country in line with the aspirations of the people.

A statement issued here said the EU delegation was informed about the initiatives taken by the ECP like piloting of Bio-metric voter verification, electronic voting machines, GIS/Google mapping of Union Councils/Constituencies, and Smart Phone/Android application for result management system (RMS).

He also informed the participants that in the light of the report of the General Elections 2013 Inquiry Commission, the ECP has established a National Coordination Committee, Planning Committee, Monitoring Wing and a separate Training and Research Wing to streamline:

The delegation appreciated the steps being taken by the ECP for strengthening electoral reforms in Pakistan and ensured their full support and technical assistance for strengthening the electoral process in country…ends
