Hindu marriage act being amended ‘for good’

LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Minorities Khalil Tahir Sindhu has said the government is transacting the laws relating to Hindu marriage for improving their social conditions.
Talking to Hindu MPA of the ruling PML-N yesterday, the minister said like the Christian Marriage Act, Hindu Marriage Act was also being amended to overcome lacunae and a draft in this regard has been finalised and sent to law ministry for further action. Sindhu further said that discussion and consultation with the legal experts and the intellectuals was underway, in order to protect civil rights of the minorities with more vigour.
Hindus in Pakistan have been facing hurdles about registration of their marriage and also about separation. Proper documentation of the marriage is long standing demand of the Hindus as absence of their exercise has been causing them problems in social life and about travelling abroad.
School security body: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has set up a divisional committee under the chairpersonship of Member Board of Revenue Jawad Rafiq Malik to monitor and revalidate the security arrangements of all public and private schools and colleges in Lahore division.
Jawad Rafiq Malik chaired the meeting accompanied by Commissioner Lahore Abdullah Khan Sumbal at Commissioner Office on Dev Samaj Road. He said the committee will daily visit the educational institutes to monitor the security arrangements under the instruction of home department.
Mr Malik added the committee would check the external walls, barriers, functionality of CCTV cameras, guards, barbed wires etc on ground.
The commissioner directed all EDOs and director colleges of Lahore division to make regular visits in their capacity also to ensure and improve the arrangements strictly in accordance with issued instructions.
He said that monitoring committee jointly would pay visits on daily basis.
