Rawalpindi - A protest demonstration against police was held here at Saddar area yesterday for arresting and torturing an 80-year-old man allegedly in a cattle theft case.

The protestors while holding placards chanted slogans against police and demanded Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja to take notice of police brutality against an aged man and suspend the police officers involved in the inhuman act.

Madad Khan, a poor 80-year-old man, was taken into custody from Chakra by a team of police station Naseerabad on January 29 in connection with a cattle theft case. The police detained him for two days and allegedly tortured him.

Pakhtoons Welfare Foundation led by its President Ajmal Khan Mohmand along with dozens of people gathered at Mithu Khan Ahata and staged a demonstration against Naseerabad police for nabbing an old man and torturing him in cattle theft case despite of the fact he was not involved. The protesters bellowed slogans against the station house officer and investigation officer Sub Inspector Qaisar and demanded justice with the old man.

SHO PS Naseerabad Ahsan Kiyani, when contacted, said that police summoned Madad to the police station and asked him to produce his son Saeed after a citizen Dolat Khan lodged a complaint of cattle theft against him. He said that both parties later sought time from police to resolve the issue through a jirga. “Later, the complainant against approached police and said that Madad and his son were not cooperating with police,” the SHO said adding that he was in touch with the case and would lodge FIR if Madad’s son is found guilty. He denied torture on the old man. The regional police officer was not available for his comments on the issue.
