LAHORE  - All Pakistan Trade Union Federation, All Pakistan Workers Confederation and National Labour Federation Pakistan yesterday held separate rallies and conference in support of protesting PIA employees.

The unions’ leaders in their speeches condemned the privatization of national carrier and demanded of the government to stop selling of public utilities following “agenda of IMF and World Bank.”

APTUF in a meeting requested the prime minister to stop the privatization of national institution.

“We demand judicial inquiry into the killing of PIA employees. The PIA is a national asset and the government must stop its selling rather the reforms could be introduced in deficit hit department,” said APTUF general secretary Aima Mahmood.

Meanwhile, hundreds of workers of various trade unions including Railways, Electricity/WAPDA, PTCL and others held a protest rally at front of Lahore Press Club under the aegis of All Pakistan Workers Confederation. The union leader Khurished Ahmed expressed deep condolence over the brutal killings of three P.I.A. workers at Karachi Air Port and demanded of the Prime Minister to intervene to get resolved the legitimate demands of P.I.A. workers through mutual dialogue.

The Rally in a resolution urged the Prime Minister to introduce administrative reform in the national public utility P.I.A. to raise its efficiency through promulgating competent management alike Air Martial Asghar Khan and Air Martial Noor Khan who not only developed this utility as one of the top airlines of the world but also played a pioneer role in developing the airlines of many Asian and Middle East Countries.
