SIALKOT/SAMBRIAL - The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced to conduct special audit of Gujranwala Division’s 7,295 industrial units which concealed the facts about their business and taxes in their tax returns.

It has fixed February 28, 2018 as final deadline for the special audit. According to the senior FBR officials, 25 FBR teams - 12 in Sialkot region and 13 in Gujranwala region - have been moved ahead with the special task to ensure transparent conduct of the special audit till the final deadline.

The officials added that the FBR had selected 7,295 industrial units for special audits through the recently held special FBR draws held at the FBR Headquarters Islamabad. They said that the owners of these selected industrial units had concealed the facts about their business and taxes payments in their annual tax returns submitted before the FBR in both Sialkot and Gujranwala regions.

Meanwhile, the Excise and Taxation Department’s special recovery teams have sealed 145 properties of the chronic defaulters besides issuing arrest warrants for 1,500 other big defaulters. It issued the lockup notices to 20,000 other defaulters for the non-payment of their property, luxury, commercial and professional taxes. The ongoing vigorous recovery campaign was launched against the defaulters in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

According to the senior E&T officials, 120 special recovery teams have recovered different taxes amounting to Rs1.42 billion during the first seven months of the running fiscal year in the region.

The officials added the defaulters were still reluctant to pay their property, luxury, commercial and professional taxes despite the repeated warnings and final recovery notices issued by these recovery teams.

Meanwhile, MC Vice Chairman Ahsan Zafar Ghumman said while talking to newsmen that MC had started development work to establish a public park near old Shama Cinema. Park will be developed on 6 kanal land with the cost of Rs70 million he added.
