MULTAN - The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) administration on Thursday approved the suspension of Ajmal Mahaar, a teacher of Saraiki Department, who is allegedly involved in a sexual abuse case.

The varsity sources revealed that BZU Vice Chancellor Prof. Tahir Ameen okayed the suspension of Ajmal Mahaar and the notification was likely to be issued on Friday (today). Similarly, the varsity administration imposed a ban on the entry of the prime accused namely Ali Qureshi in the university.

Marjan, a female student of Saraiki Department of BZU, on January 25 filed an application with SSP Operations Multan Saifullah Khattak, accusing her class fellow Ali, his four friends and their teacher Ajmal Mahaar of sexually abusing her.

An FIR (No 2/18) was registered by the women police station under sections 376, 109, 506 and 25-D of the Telegraph Act on the complaint. The police conducted successful raids and arrested all the accused including Ajmal Mahar, Ali Qureshi, Usman, Rashid and Tanzeel, who are currently on a four-day physical remand in police custody.

The BZU spokesman claimed that the female students had not filed any application, the complainant girl, insists that she had filed application with the VC office one year ago when she was subjected to sexual assaults by the teacher and his accomplices. “But no one listened to me. My application was not entertained,” she added.

On the other hand, the complainant also appeared before the inquiry committee constituted by the BZU administration and got recorded her statement. The committee had summoned the girl and her father thrice but they did not turn up earlier.

The three-member committee included Director Students Affairs Prof Ashraf Khan, Registrar Dr Umar Chaudhry and Prof Seema Mahmood.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that police recovered a pistol from Ali Qureshi, who is stated to be involved in rape of another girl.
