rawalpindi - Police failed in nabbing a cop of Islamabad police involved in injuring a citizen during a shoot-out at Sadiqabad, sources said on Thursday.
An attempted murder case was registered with Police Station Sadiqabad against ICT police constable identified as Ramiz Satti and 4 of his accomplices on complaint of Abrar Ahmed, the injured citizen, they said.
According to the sources, Abrar Ahmed, resident of Khurram Colony, lodged complaint with Police Station Sadiqabad on February 6, stating that he was standing with his friends outside Khurram Kiryana Street when Ramiz, Hasib and Osama Pervaiz along with two other men arrived in a car. He added that Ramiz stepped down the car and opened indiscriminate firing at him and Ijaz.
As a result, he said, he sustained a bullet injury while the attackers managed to escape. Abrar told the police that Ramiz was employed as constable in Islamabad police and had also been using abusive language against area people under influence of alcohol. He said that Ramiz had earlier threatened him of dire consequences as he tried to stop him from doing so.
Abrar requested the police to register a case against the cop and his accomplices and arrest them. Taking action, the police registered a case and began investigation. Talking to The Nation, Abrar said that the police were using delaying tactics in arrest of the accused. He said that taking advantage of the negligence of police, Ramiz managed to register a bogus case against him and other area people with Koral police.
He appealed Regional Police Officer and City Police Officer Rawalpindi to order Sadiqabad police to arrest the accused and provide him protection. “We have registered attempted murder case against Ramiz and are trying to arrest him,” said SHO Sadiqabad Chaudhry Zulfiqar, when contacted. He said that the police would also write a letter to Islamabad police chief to hand over the accused to Rawalpindi police.
