Islamabad -  European Union Military Committee Chairman Gen Mikhail Kastarakos has appreciated the resolve of Pakistan Army and its continuing efforts towards fighting terrorism and bringing peace in the region.

The visiting dignitary expressed these views during his separate meetings with Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

According to the ISPR, regional security issues and matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.

While talking to the defence minister, Gen Kostarakos also appreciated Pakistan’s contribution in the war on terror and its sacrifices.

He expressed the desire to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and the EU. He highlighted the importance of better communication and interaction at various levels under a mutually agreed framework.

Dastgir said that Pakistan strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterated Islamabad's zero tolerance against the use of its soil to promote terrorism against any country.

He said that Pakistan has been providing multi-faceted support to the international community in the war against terrorism.

He said that Pakistan was committed to stability and peace in the region with particular focus on its relationship with Afghanistan. He said that a peaceful Afghanistan was not only in the interest of Pakistan but also the whole region.

The defence minister said that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with the EU and “our relations draw strength from a shared objective of global peace and security”.
