LAHORE - Newage/Guard Group outclassed Barry’s to qualify for the main final of the Master Paints Polo Cup 2018 while Diamond Paints defeated Army Whites to book berth in the subsidiary final here Thursday at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground.

Newage/Guard Group proved too hot for the Barry’s as they thrashed their opponents with a huge margin 8-4½. Taimur Ali Malik, Alman Jalil Azam, Raja Arslan Najeeb and Salvador Ulloa all contributed equally in the tremendous triumph of Newage/Guard Group as they all banged in a brace each.

Barry’s, the losing side, saw an impressive performance from Silvestre Garrose, who hammered a hat-trick while his teammate Jamil Barry also contributed one goal, but their efforts proved futile in the end, when their team lost the crucial match by almost half goals margin. Saqib Khan Khakwani and Miguel Luis Duggan officiated the match as field umpires.

Earlier the first match of the day proved to be a closely-contested game, as Diamond Paints outpaced Army Whites by four and half goal to three. Macos Araya emerged as star of the day from Diamond Paints as he played superb polo and thwarted two tremendous goals for the winning side, which had also half goal handicap advantage. Mir Huzaifa and Mir Shoaib Ahmed were the other players from Diamond Paints, who also played brilliantly and pumped in one goal apiece to complete the tally for the victors.

From the losing side, although three of their players Brig Zulfiqar, Ignasio Negri and Major Omer Minhas contributed one goal apiece, and struggled hard to add more in their team’s total, but their efforts went in vain and their side had to face defeat. Hissam Ali Hyder and Mumtaz Abbas Niazi supervised the match as field umpires.
