LAHORE -  A watchman was stabbed to death by three robbers outside a private bank in Defense-A police precincts Thursday. 

Sources said that robbers were trying to smash and remove the bank’s ATM when watchman Sajjad Siddique made hue and cry. The incident took place on the main boulevard Defense near Adil Hospital.  The bandits overpowered the watchman and took him to the ATM section where he was stabbed repeatedly. Sajjad died on the spot because of excessive bleeding, a police official said. The attackers fled instantly, an official said, adding that the robbers failed to take away the ATM.

Forensic experts also visited the crime scene. Meanwhile, dozens of relatives of the watchman gathered on the Guru Mangat Road and staged a protest demonstration to condemn the killing. They blocked vehicular traffic on the busy road by setting the tyres on fire and demanded arrest the killers.

Heavy police contingent rushed to the site and managed to disperse the protesters after holding a series of negotiations with them. The police officers assured the victim family that the killers would be brought to justice very soon.

Man robbed

Two gunmen stopped a car rider on a busy road in the limits of Ghalib Market police station and snatched away Rs 300,000 after holding the victim hostage at gunpoint. Police sources said the man was coming back after withdrawing cash from a bank when two gunmen intercepted him. The police were investigating the robbery incident.
