ISLAMABAD -Hundreds of riot gear policemen deputed outside and inside Islamabad High Court and offices of high ups of district administration after scores of lawyers went berserk over bulldozing their illegal chambers by CDA at F-8 Katcheri, informed sources on Monday.
Lawyers stormed into premises of IHC and pelted the glasses of offices of judges with stones. They also ransacked the chamber of Chief Justice of IHC while putting the law enforcement agencies and police on toes, they said. Reportedly, police detained many lawyers on charges of attacking IHC. However, no case was lodged against them.
Sensing the sensitivity of the issue, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamil Ur Rehman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Afzaal Ahmed Kausar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer also rushed to the premises of apex court and reviewed security arrangements, sources said.
The top bosses of capital police also summoned the extra police force including station house officers of police stations Ramna, Shalimar, Sabzi Mandi and Karachi Company to maintain law and order situation. Similarly, Anti Riots Unit (ARU) was also lined up around the IHC to control any unlawful condition, they said. Besides blocking all the roads leading towards the IHC and offices of Chief Commissioner Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) by the traffic police, they said police have also put the water cannons and armoured personnel vehicles on high alert to tackle any untoward situation.
“Action will be taken against the law breakers,” said a police spokesman. He said IGP Islamabad Qazi Jamil Ur Rehman along with his subordinates reached at the IHC to control law and order situation and also participated in the meeting held between IHC Chief Justice Athar Minullah and the public elected representatives of Islamabad Bar Association (IBA). He said SSP Operations Islamabad Dr Syed Mustafa remained present in IHC to monitor the law and order situation.
