LAHORE Millions of consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) spend another day without gas and electricity on Saturday. The low pressure of gas and unscheduled loadshedding of six to eight hours in various areas badly disrupted the routine life in the provincial capital. There were no gas available for cooking in various areas especially Shahdra, Green Town, Township, Thoker Niaz Beg, Faisal Town and Johar Town areas. Pakistan Electric Power Company advised Lesco for loadshedding as there was least production of electricity from thermal and hydel power plants, sources in Lesco said. The gas shortages with SNGPL was touching 900mmcfd which were effecting all CNG stations, industry and domestic consumer, an official of the company seeking anonymity said. He said the domestic consumers of Jhelum, Sialkot, Faisalabad were also facing the problem of gas shortages. We have least gas pressure for cooking meal at our hotel, a hotel owner Naveed said while talking to this scribe. There was no gas for cooking at my home and we buy food from hotel on Friday, night, a resident of Canal View said. The protest demonstrations were held in Township, Chungi Amrsiddhu areas where the protesters holding banners and placards chanted slogans against the SNGPL authorities and burnt the gas bills. Meanwhile, the electricity shortfall in the national grid reached 4,000MW and due to this there were 10 to 12 hours average loadshedding was continuing across the country, the sources said.
