ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday took suo moto notice of poor service delivery at government hospitals, flawed medical colleges admission policy and frequent road blockades in Karachi.
In the first suo moto case, the chief justice has sought reports with directives to all medical superintendents to appear in person on January 13 at Supreme Court Karachi Registry. He directed all the officials concerned to appear along with detailed reports on availability of equipment, emergency machinery including ventilators, oxygen, incubators, CT Scan, MRI, ambulances etc.
The reports are supposed to explain the position regarding the availability of life-saving drugs and medicines being provided to patients free of cost and the medicines which they have to purchase from the market.
The chief justice has further sought details of the availability of required qualified doctors and nursing staff. All the medical superintendents of government hospitals had been directed to be present in-person along with reports on the positions of respective hospitals.
The CJ also took notice of admission to private medical colleges in Sindh and sought a report from authorities concerned with a notice for a personal appearance by CEOs, owners of private medical colleges in Karachi. The matter has been fixed for hearing on January 13 at Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
In the third case, the chief justice took suo moto notice of blockade of public roads for movement of VVIPs all over the country and has called reports from the authorities concerned.
