I want to draw your attention towards the devastation of higher education in Mirpurkhas division as during the last 40 years elected representatives of the region have enjoyed with public resources. However, they did not try for the establishment of higher education institutions in the division. As a result, thousands of girls and boys students are compelled to get higher education from the University of Sindh, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, and Mehran University of Engineering & Technology situated at long distances from here.
According to the current census, Mirpurkhas Division, comprising districts Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar, has about 40 lakh population. There are a lot of young girls and boys students who want to acquire higher education at their doorstep, but they are compelled to bear high expenses of fair and transportation.
Most of the parents avoided sending their daughters to the University of Sindh, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, and Mehran University of Engineering & Technology. As a result, they are deprived of the higher education that is their right. Government is responsible for providing them these facilities at their doorstep under the rule. Only, the University of Sindh Campus is working here, but with a few number of subjects.
However, it could not fulfill the requirements of higher education of the youths of this division. Owing to government’s serious negligence, private people sector has established the higher educational institutes to generate more profits. So far, various educational institutions in private sector established here, including Muhammad Medical College (MMC), and Bhittai Dental College. These institutes are allegedly involved in receiving the exorbitant fee from the students.
There is a dire need for the establishment of the higher educational institution. A sense of deprivation exists among the students. I request the higher officials, and concerned authorities to take immediate notice on this matter, and ensure the establishment of higher educational institutions, including the University of Mirpurkhas.
MUHAMMAD NASIR IQBAL,
