KARACHI - Mobile markets in Saddar area remained closed on Monday following the killing of a young shopkeeper by the firing of bandits during robbery bid.

A 24-year-old shopkeeper, Owais was shot dead by the firing of the robbers when he offered resistance on a robbing bid on Sunday. He was shot once in his abdomen and died shortly after the incident. The two robbers who were behind the incident were also killed by the crowd of people and during an exchange of fire with the police.

The mobile markets associations had announced to shut their businesses down in a protest against the rising incidents of the street crimes at the markets, especially on Sunday and against the killing of the fellow shopkeepers.

A score of shopkeepers also staged a protest against the incident and demanded a proper police protection. “We are not demanding anything against the law,” said Rizwan Irfan, President Electronics Market Association. “But we are demanding our rights to avoid more such innocent lives in future.”

On the other hand, the Preedy police have registered a case against the robbers killed over the killing of the young shopkeeper. An FIR No 12/18 was registered at the Preedy police station on behalf of victim’s brother, namely Suleman. Police have also placed the sections of the murder, attempt to murder, police encounter and robbery  in the FIR. The complainant in the FIR told that the robbers had snatched at least three cell phones from a shop and opened fire at his brother when his brother offered resistance, adding that following the incident, one robber was caught and beaten to death by the crowd of the people while another was killed in an exchange of fire with the police.

Preedy SHO Israr Afridi said that the police deployment have been made in and surroundings  the markets while the police deployment will remain on the Sunday as the street criminals usually take advantage of the unavailability of the police on the holidays.

Separately, man arrested for killing his wife on the name of honor inside their house located at District West of Karachi on Monday.

FOUND DEAD

A 35-year-old victim identified as Tehseen, wife of Sattar was found dead inside her home located at SITE area. Reacting on information, the area police reached the site and found the victim dead. The police then shifted the body to the Civil Hospital, Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The police also claim to have arrested a victim’s husband for his alleged involvement in the murder. SITE A Section SHO Sabir Khattak said that the accused got second marriage with a victim about seven years ago and a couple belonged to the Bajaur Agency, adding that the accused is a laborer by profession, who according to initial investigations shot and killed his wife in the name of honour as he had doubted on her character.

The police also claimed to have recovered a pistol used in the incident. The body of the victim was handed over to her family for burial process while a case has been registered and further investigation was underway.
