LAHORE -  Rescue workers retrieved body of an unidentified woman from the River Ravi early on Monday, police said. The body was shifted to the morgue for an autopsy.

Some passersby contacted the police and rescue workers after they spotted the body stuck in bushes in the river. The rescue workers managed to pull out the body from deep waters. Police have yet to ascertain identity of the woman who is said to be in her early 20s.

A police official said there were no torture marks on body of the victim.

It was not clear yet whether the woman, clad in a Shalwar Kamis, died by suicide or she was murdered. The police were investigating the death.

DRIVER BURNT ALIVE AS TRUCK CATCHES FIRE

A truck driver was burnt alive when his vehicle caught fire on Guru Mangat Road in Lahore’s Gulberg area late on Sunday night.  Rescue workers said the drive died instantly.

Police have yet to ascertain identity of the driver, who was taking rest in the driving seat when fire erupted in the front portion of the truck. The body was shifted to a hospital and police were investigating the incident.
