I had participated in the long march and joined the lawyers' caravan from my hometown, Gujranwala. The enthusiasm of the lawyers and common people was great. In my opinion the long march was a total success from Karachi to Peshawar. Thousands of lawyers and hundreds of thousands people representing the civil society joined and welcomed the lawyers' caravan. The reason to conduct this long march was to show the government that the people of Pakistan are absolutely committed to restoration of the deposed judges. Revival of true democracy is conditional to their restoration. Thousands of participants of this long march supported this cause unanimously, endured the harsh, hot weather and sacrificed their sleep, just for this cause. The prompt result of this long march did not come because of the reservations of Pervez Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari. But the top leadership of the lawyers has decided to conduct more long marches in the coming days to put pressure on them to do the needful. One day they would realize that the people of Pakistan want restoration of judges more than anything else. -MUHAMMAD WASEEM ELAHI, Gujranwala, via e-mail, June 28.
