LONDON - Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Wajid Shamsul Hasan has stressed the need for more focused efforts by the Kashmiri leaders to highlight the Kashmir cause particularly through their respective local political representatives. The High Commissioner was speaking to a delegation of Kashmiri leaders led by Maulana Muhammad Yaqoob Chishti who called on him at the High Commission on Tuesday. The High Commissioner said the issue of Kashmir has been there unresolved for the past sixty years and needs resolution for the peace in the region and prosperity of the people. He said the settlement of Kashmir issue in the light of UN resolutions is vital for Pakistan and India to move ahead in their relations. Welcoming the High Commissioner on his fresh appointment, Maulana Chishti recalled Hasan's major contribution in 1995 when the Labour Party had adopted the Kashmir Resolution in Brighton Declaration. The meeting offered fateha for Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. Later, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK Nihal Jayasinghe also paid a courtesy call on Hasan and discussed matters of mutual interest.
