LAHORE – The City Police Operations chief, DIG Muhammad Tahir Rai, said on Sunday coordination and positive links between the police department and the public played a vital role in busting criminal gangs and discouraging crime.
Rai expressed these views during a meeting held at his office with the representatives of different housing societies. He assured them that the new patrolling plan was being implemented outside and inside the housing societies that are located in Saddar Police Division, but the strategy could only be effective if the residents of these societies cooperated with the police department.
The City Police Operations spokesman said several representatives of PCSIR, PIA, Nasheman Iqbal and other societies attended the meeting and expressed their reservations over the deteriorating law and order situation. They further said not a single case of robbery or dacoity had been traced or properly investigated by the police concerned during the past six months.
On hearing this, DIG Rai directed the Chung DSP to launch fresh investigation into all the FIRs lodged on different charges during this period. He, however, asked the representatives of housing societies to properly investigate before hiring security guards.
“Security guards are involved in most cases of armed robberies,” the DIG asserted. Rai also asked them to hire security guards only from those companies that had obtained licenses from the Interior Ministry.
The DIG directed Saddar Division SP to ensure construction of walls around these housing societies. He also issued directions to DSPs and SHOs to personally patrol different housing societies and check duties of personnel working under the umbrella of Mujahid and Tiger Squads.
He further asked the Saddar SP to continue holding meetings with the office-bearers of the housing societies located in his jurisdiction.
