QUETTA - Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan and other law enforcement agencies rescued a kidnapped district health officer after exchange of fire while six alleged terrorists and a kidnapper were also killed in separate actions in Mastung and Bolan districts, on Sunday.

According to sources, FC and other law enforcement agencies carried out a pre-dawn operation in Dasht and its adjacent areas and recovered District Health Officer Mastung Dr Abdullah Jan Barech who was kidnapped by gunmen on June 3. Sources said four people were also killed in exchange of fire while some other sources put the death toll at 6.

Meanwhile, according to a press release issued by FC on the directives of provincial government, FC backed by other law enforcement agencies carried out operation in Kabu Isplinji area of tehsil Mastung and Pirghab area f Bolan district against terrorists who had set up camps there. It said provincial government had received information that criminals involved in terrorism, kidnapping for ransom and other crimes in Quetta and its surroundings had established their hideouts in different areas. As per the tip-off some terrorist commanders were also present in these hideouts. Forces took action against terrorists in the early morning at 4:00 am which was still underway.

“A doctor, kidnapped on June 3, was recovered while six terrorists and one kidnapper have been killed. Besides, some suspects have also been arrested for investigation while arms were recovered from their possession. However, some main commanders managed to flee and raids are being conducted for their arrest,” said the press release. It further said that local people were completely cooperating with law enforcement agencies which was commendable and with the help of local people the area would be made abode of peace eradicating it from terrorists.

Meanwhile, at least four people, including a woman and a sub- inspector were killed and two children wounded in separate incidents of firing in different towns of Balochistan, on Sunday.

Unidentified armed men shot dead a person in Sariab area of Quetta and fled from the scene. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Ramzan a resident of Sindh, however, motive behind his murder could not be ascertained immediately.

Police moved the body to Civil Hospital Quetta for medico-legal formalities and later handed over it to heirs for burial.

In Khuzdar, unidentified masked men sprayed bullets on the vehicle of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Rafiq at Bolan nullah of Khuzdar district when he was on his way to home.  As a result, he received serious wounds and was being shifted to hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said investigation into the killing was underway adding that it could be a case of target killing.

In another incident, two people, including a woman were killed and two children were wounded in tehsil Usta Muhammad of Jaffarabad, in Gott Ali Nawaz. Gunmen opened fire on Mashooq Ali and a woman while two youngsters Rubina and Dareen also sustained injuries. Police moved the dead and injured to nearby state-run hospital and started investigation into the incident.
