ISLAMABAD – Minister for Water and Power Gilgit-Baltistan Advocate Shakeel on Sunday said that rich potential is present in northern region for the development of tourism and power projects.  He said that Gilgit-Baltistan is rich in natural resources which can be utilized for power projects to meet the growing demand of energy in the country.

Talking to Pakistan Television, he said that the government is taking measures to bring improvement in the power sector and for this, Bhasha Dam and other similar projects would be completed in near future.

He said that Gilgit-Baltistan government is taking all possible steps for socio-economic uplift of the area.

He said that the government has provided job opportunities to the people of this region.

Replying to a question he said that Gilgit-Baltistan government had held meetings with all stakeholders to maintain peace and tranquility in this area.

He said “We need special equipment and resources to maintain peace and law and order in the area.”

Replying to another question, he said that there is need to implement the projects in all sectors.

The Minister said that the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan is making all out efforts for the development of tourism and power projects.  He appreciated Pakistan Peoples Party leadership who took special interest for the progress, prosperity and empowerment of the people of the area.
