KARACHI – MQM Coordination Committee Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar on Sunday said that Pakistan would become a truly democratic and civilised country if politics and welfare works were combined. Addressing a convention of party workers held at Lal Qila ground in Azizabad area in connection with the collection of Zakat and Fitrana during the holy month of Ramazan, Sattar said that people living below the poverty line should also be remembered in the sacred month besides doing other deeds of piety. He said that a system for collecting Zakat should be evolved for highlighting the concept of a real welfare state. He said that serving the humanity was the best form of worship.Sattar said his party had created a model for the collection of zakat and fitrana towards its objective of making Pakistan a welfare state. The MQM had, he added, established new trends in the political environment of the country.Speaking on the occasion, another MQM Coordination Committee member Wasim Aftab said the MQM was the biggest threat to the decaying feudal system in the country and it was because of this reason that the resources of the state that should have been used for public welfare, had been used against the MQM because it was giving a message of awakening to the people.Addressing the workers’ convention, MQM Coordination Committee member Mustafa Kamal, who is also chief trustee of the MQM’s Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation Pakistan, said that serving the humanity had always been the driving force in the life of MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
