MUZAFFARGARH - DCO Tahir Khurshid Chaudhry has said that Ulema can play key role in dispelling the misconception about polio drops among masses. The Ulema should motivate the public to administer anti-polio drops to their kids up to five years of age so that future generation could be protected against the crippling disease.

He was addressing a seminar on “Ulema’s Role in Polio Eradication” at Khursheeda Abad Girls High School here the other day.

Seminar was attended by EDO (Health) Dr Ashiq Malik, DO Health Dr Siddique Saqib, AC Sajjad Hussain, Kot Addu AC Nasrullah Chadar, DO Social Welfare Ch Saleem Akhtar and all the DSPs of the district along Mofti Muhammad Shafi and Qari Zakaullah.

The DCO said that no one could deny the role of Ulema in the society, and it was need of the hour utilise this role to combat the menace of polio. The seminar was jointly organised by the Health Department in collaboration with UNICEF, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI).

Addressing the seminar, EDO (Health) Dr Ashiq Hussain said that Pakistan is among the three countries in the world where large number of children suffer every year from the polio virus.”Without assistance and participation of local people the disease could not be eliminated”, he said. On the occasion, Ulema and civil society activists assured all out support for anti-polio campaign.
