NATO containers damaging the motorway

The 326 km long motorway that connects Lahore with Islamabad is an asset of our country. It is one of the most expensive motorway in Asia. A whopping amount of Rs. 30.5 billion was spent on its construction. One of the interesting feature of this passage is that the fighter planes of PAF can land and fly from it. It is an arterial channel of transportation and communication. Some weeks back the National Highway Authority apprised the Standing Committee on Communication that this motorway is in a great jeopardy of subsiding as 48% of it has been worn out by the NATO containers that travel to Afghanistan through it. As many as 7528 vehicles are being used by NATO to take goods to Afghanistan through this motorway. Owing to rough use, these vehicles have resulted in damaging our roads to the tune of Rs. 122 billion. This Lahore-Islamabad Motorway direly needsan amount of 5 billion rupees immediately to get the fissures repaired that have appeared on its surface. This motorway was not built for juggernaut like containers of NATO to ply on it. The government should take up the matter with the NATO authorities and must ask them to pay 5 billion rupees sooner rather than later to repair it lest the whole motorway should subside completely. It will be highly appropriate to stop the NATO containers to go through the motorway and six other roads if the said amount is not paid in the near future by the NATO bigwigs.
