Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while taking serious notice of increasing gas theft and soaring line losses of natural gas, has advised the director generals (DGs) concerned and state-owned gas utilities - SNGPL& SSGCL - to immediately submit report to him.
Sources in Petroleum Ministry told this scribe on Saturday that the minister, after assuming the charge, has chaired a meeting with senior officials of the ministry to get briefing on the affairs of the ministry. Secretary Ministry of Petroleum gave a detailed briefing to the minister about the working, organization, availability of natural resources and their allocation to various sectors of the country.
During the course of this meeting, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that measures would be taken on war footings to overcome the shortage of oil and gas in the country. The minister took serious notice of gas theft and unbearable line losses. He said bureaucracy and officials at the ministry should work independently. From now onwards, decisions would be taken on merit and no pressure or influence would be entertained. He also said at present the presence of abundance of problems in the ministry is only because of wrong decision-making made in the past.
While expressing priority of natural gas allocation to the consumers, the minister said domestic and commercial consumers are the first priority and power sector is on second priority. Similarly, fertilizer and industrial sectors are the third and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and cement sectors are on the last priority in gas allocation.
