ISLAMABAD- Muttahida Qaumi Movement candidate Waqar Hussain Shah defeated Muttahida Deeni Mahaz’s Aurangzeb Farooqui following the re-poll on six polling stations of the provincial constituency PS-128.

According to unofficial results, MQM’s Waqar Hussain stayed victorious with scoring 23,822 votes while MDM’s Aurangzeb Farooqui scored 23,570 votes.

It is worth mentioning here that after the boycott of three key political parties, including PPP, ANP and PTI, the real contest in PS-128 was between the MQM and the MDM candidates.

The polling was stopped following the bomb blast on the camp of ANP election office. MQM candidate Waqar Hussain Shah filed a petition that he had secured maximum number of votes but the ECP gave decision for re-poll, allowing the rival candidate of MDM’s Farooqui petition for re-polling at six polling stations of the constituency.

About 700 personnel from police, rangers and army were deployed for security during the re-poll. Army helicopters were also carried out aerial surveillance while DG rangers Major Gerneral Rizwan along with the senior officials and police also visited the polling stations to monitor security.
