LAHORE - Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed has suspended Town Municipal Officer Rai Imtiaz Hassan over unsatisfactory arrangements at a Ramazan bazaar in Samanabad.

The minister, during his surprise visit to Gulshan-e-Ravi and Islam Pura Ramzan bazaars yesterday, suspended the TMO over presence of expired oil and ghee in market, closure of sugar stall and absence of staff in Gulshan Ravi Ramazan Bazaar.

On the occasion, people also complained of shortage of the lemons to which minister directed Lahore District Coordination Officer to ensure the availability of lemons.Later on while talking to the media, the provincial minister warned stern action will be taken against those involved in profiteering.

FINES:  The city’s Price Control Magistrates carried out raids on 1344 places in its campaign against profiteering, a press release issued by City District Government Lahore (CDGL) said yesterday.

According to the CDGL officials, the magistrates fined Rs1,57, 000 on 48 shopkeepers for selling commodities at inflated prices while 164 persons were arrested out of which 84 were sent to jail direct from the spot. As many as 72 FIRs were registered.

Lahore DCO Captain (r) Muhammad Usman directed continuing campaign against hoarding and profiteering and those shopkeepers involved in overcharging in holy month of Ramazan. He said the price control magistrates are fully active against overcharging, in order to provide relief to the masses.
